The Review:

This book was supposed to be a sweet, easy read during wintertime, but instead turned me into a complete sap!! The nostalgia of New York City combined with the totally endearing Belotti family made me fall in love with this novel! The plot has more than just your usual romance novel; it touches on domestic relationship abuse, adoption and family values.

Iris moves to New York City to start a new life after a difficult abusive relationship – her choice for NYC is based on her late mother’s memorable time in the City when she was young. After coming across a family-run gelateria, she recognizes the door to their building from an old picture she has of her mother during her time in the City. A desire to learn more about her mother and her time in NYC pushes her to go to the gelateria where she meets the handsome Gio Belotti. The Belotti family’s secret gelato recipe is in danger of being forgotten and Iris might be the only one who can help. As she unveils her mother’s past and link to the Belotti family, she becomes too intertwined to walk away (read: in love with Gio 😍).

The way in which the Belotti family takes others under their wing and not only treats them as family but accepts them as family was what brought tears to my eyes:

“Iris is my family.”
“And mine.”
“And mine.”
“And mine.”

What a wonderful surprise to find such meaning in what I expected to be a cute, easy read!!
